KEGG   ENZYME: 1.13.11.66Help
Entry
EC 1.13.11.66               Enzyme

Name
hydroquinone 1,2-dioxygenase;
hydroquinone dioxygenase;
benzene-1,4-diol:oxygen 1,2-oxidoreductase (decyclizing)
Class
Oxidoreductases;
Acting on single donors with incorporation of molecular oxygen (oxygenases);
With incorporation of two atoms of oxygen
BRITE hierarchy
Sysname
benzene-1,4-diol:oxygen 1,2-oxidoreductase (ring-opening)
Reaction(IUBMB)
benzene-1,4-diol + O2 = (2Z,4E)-4-hydroxy-6-oxohexa-2,4-dienoate [RN:R05246]
Reaction(KEGG)
Substrate
benzene-1,4-diol [CPD:C00530];
O2 [CPD:C00007]
Product
(2Z,4E)-4-hydroxy-6-oxohexa-2,4-dienoate
Comment
The enzyme is an extradiol-type dioxygenase, and is a member of the nonheme-iron(II)-dependent dioxygenase family. It catalyses the ring cleavage of a wide range of hydroquinone substrates to produce the corresponding 4-hydroxymuconic semialdehydes.
