KEGG   ENZYME: 2.8.4.2Help
Entry
EC 2.8.4.2                  Enzyme

Name
arsenate-mycothiol transferase;
ArsC1;
ArsC2;
mycothiol:arsenate transferase
Class
Transferases;
Transferring sulfur-containing groups;
Transferring alkylthio groups
BRITE hierarchy
Sysname
mycothiol:arsenate S-arsenotransferase
Reaction(IUBMB)
arsenate + mycothiol = arseno-mycothiol + H2O
Substrate
arsenate [CPD:C11215];
mycothiol [CPD:C06717]
Product
arseno-mycothiol;
H2O [CPD:C00001]
Comment
Reduction of arsenate is part of a defence mechanism of the cell against toxic arsenate. The product arseno-mycothiol is reduced by EC 1.20.4.3 (mycoredoxin) to arsenite and mycothiol-mycoredoxin disulfide. Finally, a second mycothiol recycles mycoredoxin and forms mycothione.
History
EC 2.8.4.2 created 2010
Orthology
K18701
arsenate-mycothiol transferase
