Entry
EC 4.2.3.100                Enzyme

Name
bicyclogermacrene synthase;
Ov-TPS4
Class
Lyases;
Carbon-oxygen lyases;
Acting on phosphates
BRITE hierarchy
Sysname
(2E,6E)-farnesyl-diphosphate diphosphate-lyase (bicyclogermacrene-forming)
Reaction(IUBMB)
(2E,6E)-farnesyl diphosphate = bicyclogermacrene + diphosphate [RN:R09900]
Reaction(KEGG)
Substrate
(2E,6E)-farnesyl diphosphate [CPD:C00448]
Product
bicyclogermacrene [CPD:C20175];
diphosphate [CPD:C00013]
Comment
The enzyme from oregano (Origanum vulgare) gives mainly bicyclogermacrene with Mn2+ as a cofactor. With Mg2+ a more complex mixture is produced.
