Entry
EC 3.4.24.75                Enzyme

Name
lysostaphin;
glycyl-glycine endopeptidase
Class
Hydrolases;
Acting on peptide bonds (peptidases);
Metalloendopeptidases
BRITE hierarchy
Reaction(IUBMB)
Hydrolysis of the -Gly!Gly- bond in the pentaglycine inter-peptide link joining staphylococcal cell wall peptidoglycans
Comment
A zinc-dependent, 25-kDa endopeptidase from Staphylococcus simulans. Lyses cells of S. aureus, in particular, by its action on the cross-bridges of the cell wall. Type example of peptidase family M23.
History
