Entry
EC 4.3.2.6                  Enzyme

Name
gamma-L-glutamyl-butirosin B gamma-glutamyl cyclotransferase;
btrG (gene name)
Class
Lyases;
Carbon-nitrogen lyases;
Amidine-lyases
BRITE hierarchy
Sysname
gamma-L-glutamyl-butirosin B gamma-glutamyl cyclotransferase (5-oxoproline producing)
Reaction(IUBMB)
gamma-L-glutamyl-butirosin B = butirosin B + 5-oxoproline [RN:R08910]
Reaction(KEGG)
Substrate
gamma-L-glutamyl-butirosin B [CPD:C18005]
Product
butirosin B [CPD:C17586];
5-oxoproline [CPD:C01879]
Comment
The enzyme catalyses the last step in the biosynthesis of the aminoglycoside antibiotic butirosin B. The enzyme acts as a cyclotransferase, cleaving the amide bond via transamidation using the alpha-amine of the terminal gamma-L-glutamate of the side chain, releasing it as the cyclic 5-oxoproline.
