Sysname
ultra-long-chain fatty acid,[reduced NADPH---hemoprotein reductase]:oxygen oxidoreductase (omega-hydroxylating)
Reaction(IUBMB)
an ultra-long-chain fatty acid + [reduced NADPH---hemoprotein reductase] + O2 = an ultra-long-chain omega-hydroxy fatty acid + [oxidized NADPH---hemoprotein reductase] + H2O [RN:
R12714 ]
Reaction(KEGG)
Substrate
ultra-long-chain fatty acid [CPD:
C22352 ];
[reduced NADPH---hemoprotein reductase] [CPD:
C03024 ];
O2 [CPD:
C00007 ]
Product
ultra-long-chain omega-hydroxy fatty acid [CPD:
C22353 ];
[oxidized NADPH---hemoprotein reductase] [CPD:
C03161 ];
H2O [CPD:
C00001 ]
Comment
The enzyme, which is expressed in the epidermis of mammals, catalyses the omega-hydroxylation of ultra-long-chain fatty acids (C28 to C36). The products are incorporated into acylceramides, epidermis-specific ceramide species that are very important for skin barrier formation.
