Comment
The enzyme acetylates L-lysine at position 252 of beta-tubulin, which is located at the interface of alpha/beta-tubulin heterodimers and interacts with the phosphate group of the alpha-tubulin-bound GTP. The acetylation is thought to attenuate tubulin incorporation into microtubules. The enzyme catalysing this activity (NAA50) also catalyses the acetylation of certain N-terminal methionyl residues. That activity is classified as EC
