The enzyme, present in bacteria and archaea, participates in a pathway for the degradation of D-glutamate. The enzyme from the marine bacterium Pseudoalteromonas sp. CF6-2 can also acetylate D-glutamine, D-aspartate, and D-asparagine with lower activity.
