COMMENT REVIEWED REFSEQ: This record has been curated by NCBI staff. The
reference sequence was derived from AP000665.5 and AP002800.4.
This sequence is a reference standard in the RefSeqGene project.

On May 17, 2019 this sequence version replaced NP_063947.1.

Summary: This gene encodes a member of the serine protease family.
Serine proteases are known to be involved in a variety of
biological processes, whose malfunction often leads to human
diseases and disorders. This gene was identified as a gene
overexpressed in pancreatic carcinoma. The encoded protein is
membrane bound with a N-terminal anchor sequence and a glycosylated
extracellular region containing the serine protease domain. The
protein has been found to promote SARS-CoV-2 entry into host cells.

Transcript Variant: This variant (1) represents the longest
transcript and encodes the longest isoform (1). The splice acceptor
site used for the first intron of this variant is polymorphic in
the human population (rs2276122), and it is not known if this
variant can be expressed from individuals with the 'A' allele.

Sequence Note: This RefSeq record was created from transcript and
genomic sequence data because no single transcript was available
for the full length of the gene. The extent of this transcript is
            supported by transcript alignments.

Publication Note: This RefSeq record includes a subset of the
publications that are available for this gene. Please see the Gene
            record to access additional publications.
