Entry
EC 1.14.11.84               Enzyme
Name
sulfoquinovose dioxygenase;
SQ dioxygenase;
sqoD (gene name)
Class
Oxidoreductases;
Acting on paired donors, with incorporation or reduction of molecular oxygen;
With 2-oxoglutarate as one donor, and incorporation of one atom of oxygen into each donor
Sysname
6-sulfo-D-quinovose,2-oxoglutarate:oxygen oxidoreductase (sulfite-forming)
Reaction(IUBMB)
6-sulfo-D-quinovose + O2 + 2-oxoglutarate = 6-dehydro-D-glucose + hydrogensulfite + succinate + CO2 [RN:R13698]
Reaction(KEGG)
R13698 > R13723 R13724
Substrate
6-sulfo-D-quinovose [CPD:C20829];
O2 [CPD:C00007];
2-oxoglutarate [CPD:C00026]
Product
6-dehydro-D-glucose [CPD:C22508];
hydrogensulfite [CPD:C11481];
succinate [CPD:C00042];
CO2 [CPD:C00011]
Comment
The enzyme, characterized from the marine bacterium Marinobacterium aestuarii, participates in a sulfolytic degradative pathway of sulfoquinovose by cleaving the carbon-sulfur bond. The enzyme requires Fe(II). cf. EC 1.1.1.390 (sulfoquinovose 1-dehydrogenase) and EC 1.14.14.181 (sulfoquinovose monooxygenase).
