KEGG ORTHOLOGY Database Entry

Entry The KEGG ORTHOLOGY (KO) database is a collection of manually defined ortholog groups, called KOs, that correspond to the nodes (boxes) of the KEGG pathway maps or the nodes (bottom leaves) of the BRITE functional hierarchies. Each KO entry is identified by the unique identifier called the K number ('K' followed by five-digit number). Genes in complete genomes are assigned the K numbers both computationally and manually. The KO system is the basis for linking genomic information to higher-level systemic functional information through the processes of KEGG PATHWAY mapping and BRITE mapping.
Name Common names of KO. The primary name shown first in this field is called the ortholog identifier, which can be used as an alternative identifier (in place of the K number) to retrieve the entry.
Definition Description of KO followed by the EC number, if any.
Pathway KEGG pathways that contain this KO entry. By clicking on the link, the corresponding rectangular object is marked red in the pathway map.
Module KEGG modules (complete modules only) that contain this KO entry. By clicking on the link, the corresponding rectangular object is marked red in the module map.
Disease Known association to human diseases as stored in the KEGG DISEASE database.
Brite This represents the hierarchical classification of the KO system that follows the hierarchy of the KEGG pathways, as well as other classifications in the BRITE database. The BRITE hierarchy button may also be used to display these classifications with additional links.
Other DBs Links to KEGG REACTION, and also to COG, GO, and other classification systems.
Genes Genes in KEGG organisms that belong to this KO group.
Reference Reference (authors, title and journal) information with PubMed IDs and DOIs, as well as links to functionally characterized sequence data.
LinkDB 'All DBs' button in this field retrieves all available links to related database entries in the LinkDB system. At GenomeNet this field does not appear; instead a list of actual links is displayed on the right.
