KEGG PATHWAY Database Entry

Entry The KEGG PATHWAY database is a collection of manually drawn graphical diagrams (KEGG pathway maps) and associated text information (KEGG pathway entries) representing molecular pathways for metabolism, genetic information processing, environmental information processing, other cellular processes, human diseases, and drug development. Each pathway is identified by a five-digit number preceded by one of: map, ko, ec, rn, and three- or four-letter organism code.
Name The name of the pathway followed by the organism name for the organism-specific pathway.
Description A brief summary of the biological processes shown in the pathway map.
Class The classification of the KEGG pathway maps, which is the basis for the KEGG Orthology (KO) system as can be seen by clicking on the 'BRITE hierarchy' link.
Pathway map The corresonding KEGG pathway map. When viewing the reference pathway (ko) entries, the 'All organisms' and 'Ortholog table' links appear' These may help to understand the degree of gene conservation in complete genomes for each pathway node, as well as the completeness of the KEGG genome annotation.
Module KEGG modules (complete modules only) that are part of this pathway.
Network KEGG networks that are part of this pathway.
Disease Links to KEGG DISEASE when genes in this pathway are known to be associated with diseases.
Drug Links to KEGG DRUG when gene products in this pathway are known drug targets.
Other DBs Links to outside databases.
Organism The organism name for organism-specific pathways.
Orthology
Gene
Enzyme
Reaction
The list of pathway nodes for genes and proteins (boxes in the pathway maps). They are KO groups, enzymes, or reactions for the reference pathways, and genes for organism-specific pathways.
Compound The list of pathway nodes for chemical substances (circles in the pathway maps).
Reference Original references used for manually drawing the pathway map. This field appears only in the KO pathway entry or the DRUG map entry.
Related pathway The list of pathways that are linked from this entry.
KO pathway Link to the corresponding KO pathway entry.
LinkDB 'All DBs' button in this field retrieves all available links to related database entries in the LinkDB system. At GenomeNet this field does not appear; instead a list of actual links is displayed on the right.
