Browser | KEGG Genome Browser is a new tool for browsing gene positions and KO (K number) annotations in the genome and also for searching and comparing similar gene clusters in multiple genomes. KGB is available for almost all prokaryotic genomes and many eukaryotic genomes in KEGG. |

Navigation | For a given chromosome (or plasmid) the navigation bar is displayed with coloring of red, green and blue. Red and green indicate gene density for the plus and minus strands, respectively, and blue for conserved (frequently observed) KO pairs on either strand. By clicking on the navigation bar a specific region can be selected and genes are displayed in the main panel below. The selected region is indicated by a red rectangle within the navigation bar. The selection may also be done by entering a start position number or by using the search box. The search accepts exact matches of gene entry identifiers and K numbers or partial matches of gene symbols. |
Main panel |
The main panel contains genes with coloring of KEGG functional category. Each gene may be annotated with KID (KEGG GENES ID), gene symbol or KO (K number). When "Select mode" is unchecked, the following mouse operations are enabled.
Click and hold mouse button to scroll right and left
When "Select mode" is checked, a set of adjacent genes can be selected. They appear on the Gene cluster panel for further manipulations.
Press a modifier key (CTRL, ALT or option) and use mouse wheel to zoom in and out |
Gene cluster |
In the current implementation, the Gene cluster button searches the given sequence of K numbers in the query genome agains all genomes in KEGG. The result may be used to compare genomes in the main panel or to examine taxonomic distributions in the Brite viewer. When multiple genomes are present in the main panel they can be scrolled or zoomed at a time by pressing the SHIFT key. |
