Grows well at 95 deg C on maltose, cellobiose, or peptides with concomitant production of H2S from elemental sulfur and H2 in relatively equal proportions.
Isolated in May 2004 from a piece of a deep-sea hydrothermal sulfide chimney on the Endeavour Segment of the Juan de Fuca Ridge in the northeastern Pacific Ocean.
